Duolingo
​
Duolingo is a free American language-learning website. The website offers free lessons in multiple languages and also offers a premium service for a fee. Duolingo also comes in mobile versions (iOS and Android). It is a great way to learn new vocabulary and grammar through interactive games and quizzes. It separates each lesson by category (food vocabulary, family vocabulary, the verb “to be,” and more). It also allows you to practice pronunciations.

Steps:
​
1. Go to https://www.duolingo.com/courses/
2. At the top right, click on “I speak…” and choose your native language.
3. After choosing your language, click on the language you want to learn.
4. Click on “Start Course” on the right.
5. This offers you the option to start the basics of the language or to take a placement test.
6. Begin learning the language!

Babbel
​
Babbel is a German subscription-based language learning app and e-learning platform. It helps you practice new vocabulary and grammar through interactive quizzes. It is similar to Duolingo, but Babbel also allows learners more flexibility in choosing what they want to focus on practicing each time the user logs in (such as Listening and speaking; Reading and Writing; Grammar; and Pronunciation). It starts at $8/month and is offered in mobile versions (iOS and Android).

Steps:
​
1. Go to https://www.babbel.com/
2. At the top of the website, Change the “Display language” into your current language. This will translate the website into your language and will offer an English course.
3. Select the language you would like to speak in the dropdown under “I want to speak…”
4. Click on “Start Learning”
5. Answer the questions on the website in order to create your account.
6. Click “continue,” and select the subscription plan you would like to do.
7. Begin learning the language!

LearnEnglish- British Council
​
British Council is a British organization that specializes in international educational and cultural opportunities. One of these opportunities is LearnEnglish, which is created for adult learners who want to learn English. It also offers different lessons for different ages: kids, adults, and teens. Each section has a big variety of interactive lessons, games, podcasts, and videos to practice any skill. LearnEnglish only offers premium self-access courses for a fee of 5.99 euros per month. It also offers several mobile apps for different learning topics. This website only teaches English.

Steps:

1. Go to https://learnenglish.britishcouncil.org/
2. At the top of the website in the dropdown, choose your native language.
3. Afterwards, next to the dropdown, click on “English level test.”
4. This will take you to their online English level test to determine your current proficiency in English.
5. After taking the test, it will display your score and your level in English. Click “Find out more”
6. This will direct you to the information about the subscription.
7. Click on the “Subscribe Now” to subscribe.
8. Fill out the form to create an account.
9. Begin learning the language!

Livemocha
​
Livemocha is an online language learning community. It provided instructional materials for speakers to interact with and help each other learn new languages. This website specifically helps with speaking practice. It gives you access to free English lessons where you can practice reading and speaking (and vocabulary) based on different themes.

Steps:

1. Go to https://www.livemochas.com/
2. At the first drop-down, select the language you would like to learn.
3. At the second drop-down, select your native language.
4. Press “Start.” This will bring you to a quick tutorial.
5. After the tutorial, it will ask you to create an account.
6. Fill out the information to create an account.
7. Begin learning the language!
